Video Killed The Radio Star, Pembuka Tayangan MTV

Satu Agustus barangkali akan selalu jadi perayaan lagu ini. Video Killed the Radio Star. Lagu yang disuarakan oleh The Buggles ini menjadi lagu pertama yang hadir dalam tayangan MTV pada kemunculan perdana mereka, 1 Agustus 1981. Tahun 2016 lagu ini mendapat perayaan khusus berbarengan dengan ulang tahun ke-35 MTV. 

Video Killed the Radio Star ditulis oleh Trevor Horn, Geoffrey Downes, dan Bruce Wooley pada tahun 1977. Bercerita tentang kekhawatiran terhadap aneka penemuan baru abad 20 dan pengaruhnya terhadap media seni. Awalnya lagu ini direkam oleh Bruce Woolley and The Camera Club untuk album mereka English Garden. Grup Inggris, The Buggles merekamnya dua tahun untuk album The Age of Plastic. The Buggles sendiri adalah duo, terdiri dari Trevor Horn sebagai penyanyi dan bassist dan Geoff Downes sebagai keyboardist. Setelah rilis album pertama, duo ini bergabung dengan grup progresif rock, Yes. Ketika akhirnya grup ini pun bubar, The Buggles malah merilis album kedua, Adventures in Modern Recording. 

Selain menjadi lagu pertama yang ditayangkan MTV, Video Killed the Radio Star sempat menguasai song chart di 16 negara.
