Fields of Gold bercerita tentang perasaan gembira. Namun lewat lagu ini juga Sting mengingatkan, sukacita bisa berakhir, pada suatu ketika. 

Sting terinspirasi untuk menulis lagu ini ketika pada sebuah sore menikmati matahari tenggelam. Menghayati kehidupan cintanya yang indah bersama Trudie Styler, yang dinikahinya tahun 1992. Sting menggambarkan dengan cerdas perihal kehidupan dengan kalimat yang penuh metafor. Doktor musik ini mengakui Fields of Gold sebagai salah satu lagu favoritnya.

Fields of Gold rilis tahun 1993 dalam album Ten Summoner's Tale. Lagu ini juga rilis dalam single dan mampu meraih posisi 16 pada tangga lagu Inggris dan 23 di Billboard Hot 100 serta nomor 2 pada Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart.
