Dream On, Sebuah Cerita Tentang Kehidupan

"It's about the hunger to be somebody: Dream until your dreams come true."

Demikianlah Steven Tyler memberikan pemaknaan pada lagunya, Dream On. Lagu ini menjadi single yang pertama dirilis Aerosmith. Tyler butuh waktu cukup lama memproses lagu ini, hingga menjadi lirik utuh. Rilis pertama kali pada Juni 1973 bersama debut album mereka, Aerosmith.

Dream On tak langsung dikenal. Bahkan butuh waktu 3 tahun untuk disukai. Pada Desember 1975 single Aerosmith, You See Me Crying tak berhasil masuk dalam chart. Manajer Aerosmith, David Krebs meminta Columbia Records untuk merilis ulang Dream On. Barulah lagu ini berhasil naik di posisi ke-6. Single ini juga kembali diluncurkan pada tahun 1987 dan 1993, setelah album Permanent Vacation dan Get A Grip mendapatkan tempat di hati penggemar baru mereka, yang notabene tak mengenali lagu-lagu lama mereka, termasuk Dream On.

Beberapa penyanyi membawakan kembali lagu ini. Eminem menjadikannya dasar untuk lagunya yang rilis tahun 2002, Sing For The Moment, dan ggitaris Aerosmith, Joe Perry bermain gitar untuk Eminem. Ada Ronnie James Dio yang membawakan lagu ini untuk album Aerosmith Tribute: Not The Same Old Song & Dance yang rilis pada September 1999. Yngwie Johann Malmsteen urun permainan gitar. Versi baru juga hadir di serial Glee. Versi yang dibawakan Neil Patrick Harris ini juga berhasil masuk tangga lagu.
