Mari kembali ke tahun 90-an akhir. Brimful of Asha terinspirasi oleh sosok penyanyi India, Asha Bhosle. Asha yang kerap
muncul di banyak film India ini diyakini telah menyanyikan lebih dari 12.000
lagu. Cornershop sendiri adalah grup indie rock asal Inggris.
Cornershop didirikan tahun 1991 oleh
Wolverhampton (nama lahir: Tjinder Singh) yang berperan sebagai penyanyi,
penulis lagu, dan gitaris. Didirikan bersama saudaranya, Avtar Singh (bass,
vocals), David Chambers (drums), dan Ben Ayres (gitar, keyboards, dan
tamboura). Nama band mereka ambil dari stereotip orang British Asia yang
kebanyakan memiliki corner shop. Sedangkan musik, mereka menggabungkan musik India, Britpop,
alternatif, dan musik dance electronic.
Asha Bhosle dianggap memberikan
sumbangan besar bagi industri film India. Range bermusiknya yang luas dari
folk, pop, bhajans, klasik-tradisional India; pun bahasa yang digunakan Hindi,
Tamil, Russian, English, dan Bengali. Selain mengacu pada nama, 'asha' dipakai
untuk menggambarkan 'harapan'. Tapi banyak lagu Asha juga yang berisi pesan
kepada generasi muda untuk berharap dan bermimpi untuk kehidupan yang lebih
baik.
Lagu ini terhitung sukses di tangga
lagu Inggris. Cornershop merekamnya dalam album 'When I Was Born For The 7th
Time' yang rilis tahun 1997. Pernah dibuat cover version re-mix oleh Fatboy Slim
(aka Norman Cook).
