Just When I Needed You Most, Ungkapan Kehilangan Sosok Ayah

Nama ini sebetulnya melahirkan cukup banyak hits di Amerika. Tapi di Indonesia, tampaknya namanya hanya dikenal lewat Just When I Needed You Most. Randy VanWarmer, penyanyi Amerika yang telah meninggal dunia pada tahun 2004, di usia 48 tahun. 

Lahir dengan nama Randall Van Wormer, Randy telah kehilangan ayahnya, Van Wormer, di usia 12 tahun. Tiga tahun kemudian, penyanyi kelahiran Indian Hills, Colorado ini bersama ibunya hijrah ke Cornwall, Inggris. Pengalaman ditinggal ayah di usia yang masih sangat muda ini menuntunnya untuk menulis Just When I Needed You Most. Pada tahun 1979, lagu ini berhasil mencapai posisi 8 di UK Singles Chart, nomor 4 di Billboard Hot 100, dan nomor 1 di Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks. 

Randy meninggal dunia karena leukimia yang dideritanya. Saat itu ia tengah menyiapkan album tribute untuk Stephen Foster. Dalam album tersebut Randy memainkan semua instrumen. Dia telah berhasil menuntaskan rekaman. Namun sayangnya tak sempat menyaksikan album tersebut dirilis. Ia pergi hanya sehari sebelum peringatan kematian Foster. Album Sings Stephen Foster dirilis pada tahun 2005.
