Nama St. Paul barangkali tak terlalu dikenal. Bahkan bisa dibilang hanya Only Reminds Me of You saja yang dikenal pecinta musik di tanah air. Nama lahirnya Paul Peterson, di tengah keluarga musik di Minneapolis, Minnesota. Paul ‘ditemukan’ oleh Prince pada tahun 1983. Konon Prince menyiapkannya untuk menjadi pengganti keyboardist The Time, Monte Moir. Namanya lalu terekspos sejak keterlibatan The Time dalam film Purle Rain. The Time bubar pada tahun 1984. Prince mengumpulkan personil yang tersisa untuk membentuk The Family. Paul Peterson menjadi vokalis. Tiga tahun bergabung, Peterson memilih untuk bersolo karir dan merilis album solonya. Peterson merilis dua album solo di abwah bendera Atlantic Records. Only Reminds Me of You ada di album Down To The Wire yang rilis tahun 1990.

Selain bersama The Time dan The Family, Peterson juga melakukan tur sebagai member Steve Miller Band di akhir 1980-an dan awal 90-an. Ia sempat merilis dua album solo di bawah bendera Atlantic Records. Pada masa itu Peterson menjadi aditional musicion dari band dan penyanyi. Menjadi homeband program TV dan mengikuti tur di antaranya bersama Kenny Loggins dan Oleta Adams.
