With Or Without, Dari Irlandia Menembus Amerika

Ini lagu pertama U2 yang berhasil merajai tangga lagu Amerika Serikat: With Or Without You. Menjadi lagu pertama grup asal Irlandia ini yang lebih sukses di Amerika daripada di Inggris. 

With Or Without You rilis tahun 1987 bersama album The Joshua Tree. Lagu ini ditulis oleh vokalis U2, Bono. Bercerita tentang relationships. Dalam sebuah wawancara pada tahun itu, Bono menerjemahkan "And you give yourself away.." sebagai ungkapan perasaannya masa itu terhadap grup ia bernaung. Hal yang bisa jadi juga dialami personil lain dari grup asal Irlandia yang dibentuk tahun 1976 tersebut.

With Or Without You pernah menjadi nomor satu pilihan pembaca majalah Rolling Stone. Memenangkan award pada program MTV Viewer's Choice pada tahun yang sama. Lagu ini juga muncul di sejumlah film dan serial. Muncul dalam dua episode serial 'Friends' dan hadir di film Blown Away pada tahun 1994.

Lagu ini kembali hadir di tangga lagu puluhan tahun berikutnya. Dua kali berada dalam UK Top 75 dalam kurun waktu 8 bulan yakni selama berlangsungnya reality show X Factor dan Britain's Got Talent.
