Ditulis Phil Collins bersama Daryl Stuermer. Pemain gitar dan bass ini yang banyak membantu Collins, baik bersama Genesis maupun dalam tur tunggalnya. Lewat musik up-tempo yang ia buat, Stuermer seolah ingin menunjukkan 'biarpun patah hati yang penting percaya diri' Yakin bahwa hubungan akan kembali baik-baik saja. 

Something Happened On the Way to Heaven awalnya akan dijadikan soundtrack, final scene dari 'The War Of The Roses' yang dibintangi Michael Douglas dan Kathleen Turner. Namun rupanya sang sutradara, Danny de Vito, tak suka suka lagu ini. Collins memasukkan lagu ini dalam album '....But Seriously' yang rilis tahun 1989. Lagu ini sempat masuk tangga lagu Amerika hingga posisi 4, dan di Inggris masuk lima besar.
